LAPSA announces crisis intervention training

Assisting Individuals In Crisis & Group Crisis Intervention - 3-Day Training
April 15, 16, & 17, 2020
What will this training cover?

This 3-day course combines all the content of the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation's (ICISF) Assisting Individuals in Crisis & Group Crisis Intervention courses. The course will prepare participants to understand a wide range of crisis intervention services for both the
individual and for groups.

Fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) will be outlined and participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to provide several group crisis interventions.

Who will provide the training?

Dr. Anne Balboni will be our trainer. Dr. Balboni is an ICISF approved instructor and a member of the ICISF Board of Directors. She is the state coordinator & clinical director of the state-wide Rhode Island Critical Incident Stress Management TEAM, Inc. She has over forty-five years experience in the field of education, twenty-eight years as an EMT, and twenty-one years as an EMT instructor.

When will the training take place?

This 3-day, 27-hour training will take place on Wednesday, April 1 5, Thursday April 16, & Friday, April 17 from 8:00 AM to approximately 6:00 PM each day. The schedule includes short breaks in the morning and afternoon and a longer break mid-day for lunch on your own. Long days are needed in order to cover all the material in 3 days. There are several options for lunch nearby or a refrigerator is available in the training room for participants who prefer to bring their lunch.

Where will the training take place?

The Training Room at Los Alamos Fire Station 3, 129 State Rd 4, White Rock, NM 87544.

Benefits, cost, and charging?

Committed volunteers who are trained to respond in the event of a critical incident benefit not only the laboratory, but the greater Los Alamos Community. This training is offered to LANL employees at no charge. We simply ask that participants be available to attend all 3, full days of training and be willing to maintain involvement with the Behavioral Health Response Team (BHRT), to the best of their ability. Participants must obtain manager approval prior to participating and determine with their manager how their time will be charged . As a volunteer organization, the BHRT cannot provide charging codes. When participants register, it will be assumed that manager approval has been obtained. There is no need to provide formal documentation.
